When I talk about my studies as a holistic nutritionist, the second question I am asked is always the same:
“So, what do you recommend? What do you eat?”

My answer used to be clear.
I ate vegan for a while. The sad thing was that I was immediately branded…
I also don’t like it when you decide to eat vegan and then judge all “other eaters” for not doing it.
As I said: everyone has his own reasons and a right to an individual diet!

However, as a ‘vegan’ I was also able to get to know the other side.
If you say you eat vegan, then you eat vegan. and not differently. 100%. There are no exceptions and I was often told that what I am eating is not fully vegan. Sometimes even “non-vegan” things were literally rubbed under my nose to provoke me.
Can you imagine how much pressure can be exerted after some time?
I started categorizing in:
vegan and non-vegan; good and bad.
Unfortunately, it’s not just the stomach but often the head who also wants to have a say!

Nowadays we are professionals in suppressing feelings and distracting ourselves.
Well, food was my consolation. If I didn’t feel well, the food was always there to cheer me up.
The only thing about it was that the good feeling was just temporary, of course, and the actual emotion was suppressed.
In addition, the compensation mostly happened with ‘bad’ food, and against whom were my reproachful thoughts directed afterwards?
Right, against me.

Unfortunately, the few bad eating habits got extreme attention and my body reacted immediately.
I struggled almost 1.5 years with a bad digestion!
I resisted on industrial sugar first, after that I made a break from drinking coffee and a few more things… nothing helped …
But I also knew that I can trust my body and that I can get it under control by myself!
Until I suddenly became aware of something:
The whole time I had not only divided my food into healthy and unhealthy – my nutritionist studies didn’t make it easier for me – but also imposed many bans!
And I think everyone knows that phenomenon with  prohibitions… Because of them things are getting way more attractive.

There was a real mind-change from then on:

Instead of:
“I eat vegan, which means: NO meat, NO dairy products, NO eggs, NO whatever!”

I told myself:
From now on there are no more prohibitions and I pay attention to the signals my body sends me:
Whether it’s the hunger itself, the desire for cake, for fish or even in rare moments a good piece of meat!

And you know what? I don’t ‘allow’ myself these things to eat (that has such a negative touch), but I enjoy them to the fullest!
And guess what, my digestion works properly now;)

Once again, the point of this story is that everything is a matter of your personal view! 🙂

My diet has hardly changed, I only banished that red stop sign out of my head.

You want to know my answer to the question:

“Well, what do you recommend? What do you eat” ?

I recommend nothing. Neither veganism, nor paleo, low carb or whatever. Everyone should decide for himself what’s best for him and literally listen to his own gut feeling. So back to natural eating habits, where the self-divided prohibitions hoist the white flag and the feeling of hunger and satiety set the tone!

I hope I was able to steal everyone’s thunder.
Yes, I mean all of us. We all are only human beings and everyone gives his best at any time and also has his own eating habits.
Let the others be who they are and allow yourself to be who you are.

I’ll talk you soon,
Tara
